Spill control oil chemicals safety

Through our partner suppliers we are able to supply a wide range of spill kits and spill containment products. Spill kits are available in general purpose kits (maintenance kits), oil only kits & chemical kits. We also supply general purpose or maintenance absorbents, oil only absorbents and chemical absorbents as separate individual products – pads, cushions, drain covers and socks.

If it is every day fluids being absorbed go for general purpose or maintenance products. These general purpose absorbents easily cope with oils, fuels, solvents, cutting fluids, mild acids and alkalis plus foodstuffs and water.

General purpose or maintenance absorbents absorb water so where this is a problem use oil only spill products or oil only spill kits. Oil only spill products are hydrophobic (repel water) so they readily absorb all oils and fuel but repel water. Oil only spill kits are available in various sizes.

Finally we have chemical spill kits plus separate chemical spill pads, spill socks and spill cushions. These absorb aggressive chemicals as well as virtually everything else.

General purpose or maintenance absorbents are normally grey in colour. This is the most popular type of spill product. These spill socks, spill pads and spill cushions cope with most everyday fluids but remember if oil and water are present together general purpose absorbents will absorb both. Go for oil only absorbents where they need to be separated.

Oil only absorbents available as oil only spill kits or separate oil only pads, oil only socks and oil only spill cushions. They do not absorb water so can be used on a water surface. Many cutting oils contain water so oil only absorbents are not recommended for this go for general purpose absorbents instead. Oil only absorbents are normally white in colour.

Chemical absorbents are yellow in colour. Again available in full chemical spill kits or separate absorbents these can be used to absorb acids, alkalis, fuels, oil, solvents etc. When in doubt use chemical they virtually absorb everything.

Spill kits come in three main types, general purpose spill kits sometimes known as maintenance spill kits, oil only spill kits and chemical spill kits. They all come in various sizes from 20 litre spill kits up to 1100 litre spill kits. For larger requirements we can supply a wide range of absorbent stations including the new spill pod ideal for small workshops. We have recently introduced a range of more basic value spill kits. We now have a full range of general purpose, oil only and chemical spill kits.

Our range of spill containment products range from small bunded containers through hazardous cabinets and large drum and IBC storage bunds.

Polyethylene drum pallets are the first line of defence. Leave a drum standing on the ground is risky as if it leaks it can only drain away to the mains drain. Put it on a drum pallet with a sump and it will be caught.

The capacity of the sump in a drum pallet must comply with current legislation. Drum pallets do not rust or corrode. They are cost effective and we can supply drum pallets for 1 2 or 4 drums. We also supply covered drum pallets for outside use or can link a number of drum pallets together to form a workfloor. To ease the moving of drums we supply a range of drum trolleys.
