The single most important aspect of spill control and spill prevention in the workplace is being prepared. Being aware of the potential risks and having the right spill control equipment to hand is critical in reducing the chance of injury or accident. Spill control comes in many forms, since the risks of spillage are many and varied. From the potential for water leakages from freezers in supermarkets and restaurants in the event of a power failure, to the expected spillage of oil in a garage or mechanical workshop. But just as the forms of spillage vary, so must the solutions, and we are pleased to be able to offer one of the widest ranges of spill control equipment and spill kits available.
Chemical Absorbents
In the event of a chemical spillage it is usually essential to act quickly. This can only be achieved if the right spill kits are available to hand. We have a wide range of chemical absorbents and spill control solutions for chemical spillages, including chemical spill pads, spill socks and spill cushions. It’s important to remember that not every solution is suited to every kind of spillage, and some chemicals will need very specific forms of spill control equipment. Most chemical absorbents are colour coded yellow for easy identification, and can be used to provide fast solutions that are highly effective. From acids to alkalis, and from fuel and oils to solvents, it’s far better to be prepared than to be caught out. Our chemical absorbents and chemical spill kits are available in a range of sizes, from 20 litre all the way up to 1100 litre spill kits. It’s a product you hope you never need, but when you need it, there’s no alternative to having the right equipment in the right place.
General Purpose Absorbents
Our general purpose absorbents are ideal for coping with a wild range of spillages ranging from water to oil, from foodstuffs to mild acids and alkalis. For anything more aggressive than a mild acid or alkali, or for potent solvents or major oil spillages it is important to use a more specific form of spill control solution such as a chemical absorbent or oil spill kit. But for situations where spillages are likely to be mild to moderate, and may involve a wide variety of different spillages, general purpose absorbents save time and money. Having a general purpose spill kit nearby reduces the chance of the spillage becoming anything more than a minor risk, quickly allowing for a secure and appropriate response.
Oil Only Absorbents
Oil can be difficult to deal with, and having an oil only absorbent or an oil kit to hand will save a great deal of mess, risk and time. Even a very small quantity of spilt oil can quickly act as a lubricant and create a slippery and hazardous floor surface, which could easily lead to a serious accident. It’s clear that oil and water do not mix, and this can cause additional problems when it comes to dealing with an oil spillage. Spill kits designed to absorb water will do little or nothing to deal with the problem of spilt oil. An oil only absorbent or oil spill kit is known as being hydrophobic, which means that it repels water to enable more effective absorption of oil and fuel. In workshops or mechanical yards – even garages – an oil spill kit is ideal to cope quickly and effectively with oil spills and fuel spillages.
